# How can I set up mini-jobbers and employees who are paid by the hour in absence.io?

In absence.io, every person has a work schedule, and it is based on one week. For mini-jobbers or temporary staff the hours are often agreed on and paid per month, and the person comes in flexibly on different days. This cannot be transferred one-to-one into a weekly schedule, which is why there is no standard setting for it. Depending on the contract model, you can still set it up using a workaround.

#### Which model suits whom?

| Contract model | Setting in the work schedule |
| --- | --- |
| Hours per month, completely flexible (paid purely by hours worked) | Working days without hours (0 hours) |
| Fixed number of hours per week but flexible days (e.g. 16 hours) | Enter the weekly hours and activate the corresponding days. |

#### Model 1: Hours per month, completely flexible

In the profile under **Work Schedules**, activate only the days on which the person could come in (e.g. Mon to Fri) and enter **0 hours weekly**. This sets the target to 0 hours per week. All hours the person clocks in **Time Tracking** are shown directly as overtime.

You can evaluate the hours worked per month like this:

- **Compensation:** At the end of the month, have the overtime for that month displayed (these are the hours worked) and pay it out. The month then starts at 0 again. You can find more information **[here](https://info.absence.io/en/help-center/overtime-and-what-you-can-do-with-it?hsLang=en)**.
- **Reports:** If you don’t want to remove the hours from the system manually every month, you can simply view the hours in the Reports. For a better overview, the user can set the start date of the filter for the “Balance” to the beginning of the month each time. This way, you or the user can see how many hours were worked per month, without the previous hours.

#### Model 2: Fixed number of hours per week

Enter the weekly hours in the work schedule, for example 16 hours. You have two options:

- **Fixed days:** for example, two days with 8 hours each.
- **Flexible days, evenly distributed:** the hours spread across 5 days. With 16 hours per week, that is, for example, 3 hours 12 minutes per day. If the person stays longer on one day and leaves earlier on another, it balances out within the week.

#### What to keep in mind

**Vacation and sick leave**

- *Hours spread across 5 days:* With 16 hours per week, for example, 8 hours are not credited for a day, but 3 hours 12 minutes. If you want 8 hours to be credited, add a new work schedule for that week (this is also possible for the past). A new work schedule keeps running from its **Valid from** date onwards. Therefore, add the previous work schedule again after that week.
- *Two fixed days with 8 hours each:* If the person is away on Mon and Tue, for example, it works to mark the stored days Tue and Wed as vacation. If you want to reflect the actual days, also add a suitable work schedule for that week and add the previous one again afterwards.

**Public holidays, vacation, sick leave in Model 1**

In terms of hours, these days are set to zero in our system, meaning no working day and no minus hours. They are neither stored with 8 hours nor automatically counted as overtime. Therefore, also pull the Absence days report and add these days up manually if they are to be paid.
