[FAQ - Time Tracking](https://info.absence.io/en/help-center/faqs?hsLang=en#faq-time-tracking) # Why isn't my half-day vacation calculated correctly in Time Tracking? *(Only relevant if you use the **Time Tracking** module – without time tracking, how the target hours are distributed across the day doesn't matter.)* If employees regularly take **half-day vacation**, certain work schedules can lead to incorrect target hour calculations. This mainly affects work schedules with unusual times – for example **6–10 AM and 11 AM–3 PM**. #### Why does this happen? Our system always splits a day for a half-day absence **exactly at 12 PM** – regardless of what your individual work schedule actually looks like. Depending on whether the half day is taken in the morning or the afternoon, the target hours are zeroed out either before or after 12 PM. What matters here isn't the position of the break itself, but whether your **target hours are evenly distributed across the time before and after 12 PM**. If, for example, the start time, end time, or break mean that the hours before and after 12 PM aren't equal, the calculated number of hours for the half-day vacation won't match the actual half of the daily working time. #### How to fix this If employees take half-day vacation often, you should adjust the affected work schedule so that the target hours are evenly distributed across the time before and after 12 PM – so that exactly half the target hours fall before, and the other half after, 12 PM. This doesn't mean employees always have to clock in and out at exactly these times – they can still clock in and out earlier or later as usual. What matters is that the stored work schedule, as the basis for the calculation, is correctly split around 12 PM, so a half-day vacation actually results in half the target hours. It's best to add a **new work schedule** for this.
